Recall Roundup: June 16, 2010

United States
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. (a Johnson & Johnson company), recalls four product lots of BENADRYL® ALLERGY ULTRATAB™ TABLETS, 100 count, sold in the U.S. (lots #AJA008, ADA194, ABA022, ABA264); and one product lot of EXTRA STRENGTH TYLENOL® Rapid Release Gels, 50 count sold in the U.S., Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico (Lot #ASA202). These five product lots were inadvertently omitted from the January 15th list of recalled products.
  • Pet Food Safety Recall: Meijer advises its customers that Procter & Gamble has recalled IAMS Dry Cat Food with a Free Can of Wet Canned Cat Food, as part of its recently announced recall of wet canned cat foods due to insufficient levels of thiamine in the wet cat foods.
  • Food Recall/Withdrawal: Food City advises its customers that Rosario's Pepperoni Pizza (12-inch) has been recalled/withdrawn by the manufacturer.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Songkla Canning Public Company (Amphur Muang, Thailand) that a December 2009 inspection of the company's seafood processing facility revealed serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation.


Canada
  • Food Safety Recall: Lesters Foods Ltd. (Laval, QC) recalls Lesters brand Montréal Smoked Meat (2 x 100g pkg; UPC 0 57730 01098 4; Establishment number 289) bearing best before dates between 10JL16 (July 16, 2010) and 10JL24 (July 24, 2010), because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled smoked meat pouches were distributed in Ontario, Québec and the Atlantic Provinces.
  • Unauthorized Health Products Alert: Health Canada alerts consumers that eight unauthorized health products labelled in Russian, Ukrainian or Kazakh have been removed from Montréal retail shelves.


Europe
  • Allergy Alert (United Kingdom): The Sandwich Factory Holdings Ltd recalls its Good to Go brand All Day Breakfast Sandwich (Use by: 17 June 2010) due to the presence of undeclared celery and mustard.
  • Allergy Alert (Finland): Ruokakesko Oy recalls Pirkka batch of A-class barbecue sausage (expiration date of 23/06/2010) because the product contains undeclared cheese. The recalled item was sold in K-food stores.
  • Food Safety Recall (UK): Hovis recalls Hovis Hearty Oats Loaf (800g; all best before dates up to and including 20 June 2010), because the product may contain small pieces of glass.
  • Food Recall (Finland): Arla Ingman Oy recalls several varieties of packaged yoghurts from the marketplace because of a quality issue. Due to a defect in the starter cultures used to produce the yoghurts, the company reports package swelling and texture defects in the yoghurts.
  • Consumer Product Safety Recall (Finland): Landmann Finland Oy recalls LAN 101 barbecue tool kit, because of excessive migration of nickel and chromium. The recalled kits were manufactured by Landmann UK Ltd. and sold in Gigantti stores throughout Finland.
  • Allergy Alert Notification (EU #2010.0774): Undeclared milk ingredient in pure chocolate covered rice cakes from Poland; distributed in Spain and Andorra.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.0775): Unauthorised novel food organic yacon root from Peru; distributed in Finland.
  • Food Supplement Safety Notification (EU #2010.0776): Unauthorised novel food ingredient Coriolus versicolor in food supplement from the United States; distributed in Finland.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.0777): Parasitic infestation with Anisakis of fresh chilled packaged mackerel (Scomber scombrus) from France; distributed in Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.0778): Unauthorised novel food ingredient Smallanthus sonchifolius in fruit and berry mix from the United Kingdom; distributed in Finland.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.0779): Unauthorised substance phenylbutazone (veterinary drug residue) in horse meat from the United Kingdom; distributed in France and the UK.
  • Food Supplement Safety Notification (EU #2010.0780): Unauthorised novel food ingredient clinoptilolite obtained through nanotechnology in food supplement from Germany; distributed in Austria.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.0782): Excessive sulphite in frozen whole scampi (Nephrops norvegicus) from the United Kingdom; distributed in Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.0784): Salmonella in frozen chicken breast from Germany; distributed in Sweden.


Latin America and the Caribbean
