  • Allergy Alert: Uncle T Food Ltd. recalls G7 brand instant coffees due to undeclared milk.
  • Food Safety Recall: Pensée Santé (St-Éphrem, QC) recalls croquants à la caroube (crunchy carob), because the product was manufactured using YUM brand peanut butter that has been recalled due to potential contamination with Salmonella or another harmful bacterium.

  • Allergy Alert (Denmark): Santa Maria Denmark recalls Santa Maria Nacho Chips due to undeclared milk.

  • Medical Device Safety Recall (UK and Ireland): LifeScan UK/Ireland recalls several OneTouch blood glucose meters, due to inaccurate display of extremely elevated blood glucose level readings.

  • Allergy Alert (Hong Kong): Kofco Enterprise (Asia) Co. Ltd. recalls Mixed Soybean Paste, Sesame & Garlic (Manufactured by Daesang Corporation, Korea), due to undeclared peanuts.
  • Food Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Nestle recalls Kit Kat Chunky Collection Giant Egg, as the chocolate waffle inside the egg may contain small pieces of plastic.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Department of Health urges the public not to buy or consume a slimming product named “Conting Qianweisu Slimming Herbs Capsule" as it may contain undeclared and banned drug ingredients that are dangerous to health.

  • Allergy Alert: Pams recalls Pams Fruit Nut Bars due to undeclared milk chocolate.

  • Byron Center Wholesale Meats (Byron Center, MI) recalls approximately 6,586 pounds of ham products that were produced without a Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) plan.
  • Home Market Foods recalls Cooked Perfect Homestyle Meatballs because the product may contain pieces of metal.
  • La Preferida, Inc. recalls 4,734 cases (56,808 cans) of La Preferida Whole Pinto Beans 29 oz. (Water & Salt), because the manufacturer’s preliminary inspection indicates 420 cans may not have been fully processed.
  • Bumble Bee Foods, LLC recalls specific codes of 5-ounce Chunk White Albacore and Chunk Light Tuna products, because the products do not meet the company’s standards for seal tightness.
  • Tri-Union Seafoods LLC recalls a limited amount of Chicken of the Sea brand 5-ounce cans of chunk white albacore tuna in water, because the seams on the lids of the cans do not meet the standard for seam quality.

  • Hot Springs Packing Co., Inc. (Hot Springs, AR) recalls approximately 6,120 pounds of chicken Polish sausage and chicken breakfast link products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
  • FPL Food, LLC (West Columbia, SC) recalls approximately 5,820 pounds of ground beef chuck that may contain small pieces of plastic.
  • Ben-Lee Processing, Inc. (Atwood, KS) recalls ready-to-eat and heat-treated bacon and ham products that were produced without a Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) plan.
  • Grippo Foods Inc. recalls all bags and boxes of their Plain Potato Chips, Bar-B-Q Potato Chips, Cheddar Cheese with a touch of Jalapeno Potato Chips, Hot Dill Pickle Potato Chips, Sweet Bermuda Onion Potato Chips and Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips, because these products may have the potential to contain metal fragments.
  • FDA warns consumers not to eat ProtiDiet High Protein Chocolate Dream Bar, sold in 210 gram (7.4 oz.) packages, 7 bars per package, bearing UPC 6 21498 42238 1, lot code CR 18 13B, and Best Before date of 2015-08, because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella and has been recalled by the Canadian manufacturer (Pro-Amino International Inc.).

  • Belgium: Kaasaffineurs Van Tricht recalls raw milk Goat cheese produced by Hardy de Selles Sur Cher (France) due to possible contamination with shiga-toxin producing E. coli.
  • Belgium: Colruyt recalls Everyday Salade de viande, 275g due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

  • Ireland: Food Safety Authority of Ireland announces the recall of prohibited products containing Non-Food Grade Grapefruit Seed Extract supplied by The Aisling Foundation in breach of a Prohibition Order.
  • UK: Edward Gray of Dudley Ltd, aka Teddy Grays, is recalling certain date codes of their sweet products (rock and boiled sweets) because of a possible rodent infestation at the manufacturing premises.
  • UK: Loch Arthur Creamery recalls all of its dairy products because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This is an expansion of earlier recalls.
  • UK: Nestle recalls four Kit Kat Chunky special varieties (48g size bars in Peanut Butter, Hazelnut, Choc Fudge and Caramel flavours) and Kit Kat Chunky Collection Giant Egg due to seven people reporting small pieces of plastic in the bars.

  • Israel: Strauss recalls Strauss Cottage 250, 5% fat with an expiration date of 21/03/2013 due to excessive coliform levels.
Australia and New Zealand
  • Australia: Melbourne Kosher Meats recalls Chicken and Veal Wurst from Melbourne Kosher Meats in St Kilda and Meal Mart in Balaclava (Victoria) due to  Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
  • Australia: Shaw River Buffalo Cheese recalls Shaw River Buffalo Yoghurt from some small gourmet retailers and health food stores in NSW, VIC, TAS and SA due to microbial (E. coli) contamination.
  • New Zealand: Foodstuffs (Auckland) Ltd. recalls in store processed Trevally Fish Fillets due to possible high levels of Histamine which may result in Scombroid (histamine) poisoning.

The recalled marinated beef products were shipped to distribution centers in Indiana, Missouri and Ohio for institutional use.

  • Food Safety Recall: Pilgrim's Pride Corporation (Mount Pleasant, TX and Waco, TX) recalls Sweet Georgia Brand Fully Cooked Breaded White Chicken Nuggets Shaped Patties (2 x 5-lb bags/box; Date code 11471010; Est. P-7091; Produced May 27, 2011) and Pilgrim's Pride Fully Cooked Grilled Chicken Breast Fillet with Rib Meat (6 x 5-lb bags/box; Date code 11801050; Use by date Dec 26, 2011; Est. P-20728; Produced June 29, 2011), because the ready-to-eat products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The Chicken Nugget Shaped Patties were shipped to distribution centers in New Jersey and Texas for further distribution to food service institutions; The Chicken Breast Fillets were shipped to an Ohio distribution center for further distribution to food service institutions.

  • Food Safety Recall: Euphoria Fancy Food Inc. (Brooklyn, NY) recalls Herring Special Salting (Product of Russia; uncoded 48.58oz/1300g plastic container), because the fish was not properly eviscerated prior to processing and may be contaminated with spores of Clostridium botulinum.


Canada
  • Allergy Alert: Marché Stéphane Beaulieu Inc., dba Metro Plus (Sainte-Julienne, QC) recalls several varieties of tarts, because they contain undeclared soy and/or sulfites.

  • Food Safety Recall: Sunsprout Natural Foods recalls Sprouts Alive Baby Onion Sprouts, 70g (BB JUL 28), due to microbiological spoilage. The recalled sprouts were supplied to retail stores in Ontario.

  • Food Safety Recall: Agropol International Trade Ltd. recalls Fest brand Oranzada Biala - "White" Soft Drink, 1.5L and Fest brand Oranzada Czerwona - "Red" Soft Drink, 1.5L due to the presence of unspecified chemical additives. The recalled beverages were supplied to retail stores in Ontario.


Europe
  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert (Denmark): Urtekram A/S recalls Nutana Vegetarian Pâtés (170g can; Best before 25.04.14) and Organic Tofu (500g glass jar, 260g drained weight; Best before 26.04.2014 and 10.05.2014) because the products may contain botulinum toxin. A 16-year-old boy from Copenhagen has been hospitalized with suspected food-borne botulism. The case is suspected to be linked to the consumption either of Nutana Vegetarian Pâté or Organic Tofu, both of which were imported by Urtekram. The investigation is still in progress.

  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): SuperGros A/S recalls Save brand Mackerel in Tomato (4-pack; best before 19.05.2014) because pieces of aluminum were found in some of the gaskets.

  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (France): Therabel Lucien Pharma recalls Helacidine 10% Syrup (250ml bottle; Lot #163912Z and 164912Z; Expiry 12/2014), because the label omits to mention that the syrup is contraindicated for children under the age of two years.

  • Cosmetic Product Recall and Enforcement Action (France): L'Agence française de sécurité sanitaire des produits de santé (AFSSAPS) announces the recall and the suspension of manufacturing, marketing, distribution and export of the following skin restoration products, after inspection of the manufacturing facility reveals infractions of documentation and safety/sanitary laws and regulations: Choc Medical (Hyalskin®, Mesoface® and Reparestim®), Sun Communication (Biostyle®), Philoderm Aesthetics (Rofilan Hylan Gel®, Philoderm Beauty Gel®, Zetaderm®, Zetavisc®, Esthirase®, Philoderm®, Professional® and Mesoface®) and Aesthetic Dermal (Repairs®, Refills® and Stimulates®).

  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0979): Anthraquinone in wheat fiber produced in the Netherlands with raw material from Pakistan; distributed to Australia, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Lithuania, New Zealand, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0982): Prohibited substance metronidazole in honey from Guatemala, via France; distributed to Germany.

  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0983): Suspicion of botulinum toxin in organic tofu from the Netherlands; distributed to Denmark.

  • Food Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Food Safety announces that two samples of Taiwan-style drinks "peach red tea" and "lychee juice green tea" taken at two local drinks shops were found to contain the plasticizer DEHP. The CFS has instructed the concerned shops to immediately stop sale of those two kinds of drinks.

  • Allergy Alert: Arizona Canning Company recalls Sun Vista Red Enchilada Sauce, 29-oz cans (Mild, Medium and Hot varieties; all lots), because they may contain undeclared soy. The recalled products were distributed in California and Arizona.

  • Food Safety Recall: Flying Food Group, LLC (Lawrenceville, GA) recalls Starbucks Chipotle Chicken Wraps Bistro Box (8.4 oz; Expiry 071511; Est. No. P-34373) and Starbucks Chicken & Hummus Bistro Box (6.3 oz; Expiry 071511; Est. No. P-34373), because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled ready-to-eat products were produced on July 13, 2011 and supplied to Starbucks coffee shops in Georgia and Alabama.

  • Outbreak Alert Update: CDC reports that, as of July 18, 2011, 241 people in 42 states have been infected with Salmonella Typhimurium. The infections are associated with African dwarf frogs from Blue Lobster Farms, an African dwarf frog breeding facility in Madera County, California. The owner of the breeding facility voluntarily stopped shipping frogs in late April 2011, but resumed shipments in early June.


Canada
  • Consumer Product Safety Recall: Shopper's Drug Mart/Pharmaprix (Toronto, ON) recalls Baléa Kids Hair Putty in Tropical Fruit Punch Scent styling gel (150 ml clear jar; Lot code C117), because the product may be contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia, This bacterium can cause serious illness in individuals with compromised immune systems or chronic lung issues, such as cystic fibrosis. The recalled products were sold in Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix stores across Canada from April 2011 until July 8, 2011.


Europe
Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands
  • Outbreak Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Health Protection is investigating two suspected food poisoning outbreaks involving two groups of four people who lunched at a restaurant in Shatin on July 18th. Four of the eight people sought medical treatment; one required hospitalization, but has since been discharged.

  • Counterfeit Product Alert (Singapore): The Health Sciences Authority alerts the public to the sale in local optical shops of counterfeit colored contact lenses, fraudulently labeled as "FreshLook® ColorBlends® Contact Lenses from CIBA VISION". Please navigate to the HSA notice for details.

  • Allergy Alert Update: Bruce Foods Corporation (New Iberia, LA) recalls mislabeled cans of Food Club Red Enchilada Sauce, 10-oz cans (Code ECH 451244; Best Before 5/13/2015), that may contain Green Enchilada Sauce instead of Red. The mislabeled cans contain undeclared wheat and soy, which is present in the Green Enchilada Sauce. The recalled product was sold in retail stores between 5/31/2011 and 7/02/2011 in Texas, Virginia, Minnesota, Alabama, and Ohio.

  • Food Safety Recall (Ohio): Valley Farm Meats (dba Strasburg Provision, Inc.) recalls beef products due to possible contamination with prohibited materials (spinal cord and vertebral column). The recall includes all beef products slaughtered and processed by or purchased from Valley Farm Meats retail store in Strasburg, OH, or from Ed Lind Livestock and Poultry in Medina, OH. The recalled products were produced between 01/28/2011 and 07/05/2011 and offered for sale from 01/28/2011 through 07/11/2011.

  • Food Safety Recall: Sid Wainer & Son, Inc. (New Bedford, MA) recalls imported ready-to-eat Magret de Canard Fumé Seche/Dried Smoked Duck Breast (Product of Canada; Lot No. 111217; Package code 11JN20; Best before 11DE17), because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled products were distributed for institutional use in Connecticut, Illinois, New York and Pennsylvania.

  • Food Safety Recall: Palmex, Inc. (Champlain, NY) recalls imported ready-to-eat Magret de Canard Fumé Seche/Dried Smoked Duck Breast (Product of Canada; Lot No. 111217; Package code 11JN20; Best before 11DE17), because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled products were sent to distribution centers in California and exported to the Dominican Republic.

  • Dietary Supplement Safety Recall Expanded: Global Wellness LLC (Hollywood, FL) recalls Via Xtreme Ultimate Sexual Enhancer Dietary Supplement for Men (Lot No. A032111 03/13), because the product contains sulfoaildenafil methanesulfonate, sulfosildenafil and dimethylsildenafil, which are not approved for use due to safety concerns.

  • Outbreak Alert: Teton County (Wyoming) public health officials have confirmed several cases of norovirus in northwest Wyoming in the past few weeks. Illness reports have been logged in Jackson, Teton Village, and Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Separately, the Wyoming Department of Health is tracking a sharp increase in reported cases of Campylobacter across the state.

  • Outbreak Alert: Wicomico County (Maryland) Health Department is investigating a cluster of reported foodborne illnesses that officials believe is linked to a fish fry held in Salisbury on July 1st. At least some of the illnesses involve Salmonella.

  • Outbreak Alert: The CDC is investigating an increase in cases of Campylobacter gastroenteritis in Yuma County (Arizona) and San Luis Rio Colorado (Sonora, Mexico) over the past three months, accompanied by an increase in cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome - a known secondary complication associated with Campylobacter infections.

  • Outbreak Alert: The Federal Bureau of Prisons has confirmed that a Salmonella outbreak occurred at the U.S. Penitentiary-Canaan (Waymart, PA), a high-security federal prison. More than 300 inmates and staff developed salmonellosis after consuming tainted chicken served in fajitas on June 25th, according to the Associated Press report. The food was all cooked and prepared on site.

  • Outbreak Alert: The Rhode Island Department of Health has received a report of a laboratory-confirmed case of Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection in a male in his 70s who ate raw clams earlier this month. The Department is not certain where the clams were harvested. The man was treated and is recovering.


Canada
  • Allergy Alert: Dai Jung Distributing recalls Lee brand Lemon Grass from Fresh Stems (200g; SLM MFG:28AUG2010BB:31AUG2012), due to the presence of undeclared sulphites. The recalled product was distributed through retailers in Ontario and Quebec.

  • Food Safety Recall: Palmex Inc (Marieville, QC) recalls Dried Smoked Duck Breast, (Prepared for Palmex Inc. by Charcuterie Parisienne Inc.; Canada 377; Code Lot 111217; Pkgd on 11JN20), because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled ready-to-eat product was distributed in Quebec and Ontario.

  • Food Safety Recall: Sol Cuisine Inc. recalls Sol Cuisine brand Spicy Bean Burger (364g frozen pkg; Lot code 06711), because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled product was distributed nationally.

  • Dietary Supplement Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Vita Green Health Products Co. Ltd recalls Doctor's Choice - Evening Primrose Oil (Manufactured in the USA by Captek Softgel Int'l Inc.; Best before July 28, 2013; Batch No. OEO82OA), because the product contains the plasticizers DEHP and DBP.

  • Consumer Product Safety Recall (Philippines): Procter and Gamble Distributing Phils. recalls Oral-B Tooth and Gum Care Alcohol Free Mouth Rinse (500ml, 350ml, and 60 ml; Manufactured in Columbia), after detecting out-of specification microbial levels in some products produced at the manufacturing site.

  • Health Alert (PRC): A duck processor in central China has been dumping duck excrement and dead animals directly into a river, killing fish and polluting the water. As many as 100,000 people may have been sickened as a result of the actions of the processor.

  • Outbreak Alert (Taiwan): The Centers for Disease Control has confirmed a new case of zoonotic brucellosis in a 60-year-old woman who visited Malaysia in April.

  • Outbreak Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a suspected outbreak of food poisoning involving 13 people who participated in an office lunch party on July 11th. Eleven of the 13 victims consulted a medical practitioner, and one person was hospitalized.


Australia and New Zealand
  • Consumer Product Safety Recall (Australia): Procter & Gamble Australia Pty Ltd. recalls Oral-B Tooth & Gum Care Mouth Rinse (All flavors, sizes and batches), because the product contains out-of-specification microbial levels. The recalled Mouth Rinse was sold nationwide.


Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Food Safety Recall: Palmex, Inc. (Champlain, NY) recalls imported ready-to-eat Magret de Canard Fumé Seche/Dried Smoked Duck Breast (Product of Canada; Lot No. 111217; Package code 11JN20; Best before 11DE17), because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled products were sent to distribution centers in California and exported to the Dominican Republic.

  • Outbreak Alert: The CDC is investigating an increase in cases of Campylobacter gastroenteritis in Yuma County (Arizona) and San Luis Rio Colorado (Sonora, Mexico) over the past three months, accompanied by an increase in cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome - a known secondary complication associated with Campylobacter infections.

United States
  • Allergy Alert: B&G Foods, Inc. recalls Las Palmas Green Enchilada Sauce (19-ounce; All sell-by dates on or prior to December 13, 2013), because the product may contain an undeclared allergen, according to a report by Giant Eagle.

  • Allergy Alert Update: Posh Bakery (Santa Clara, CA) recalls Butter Mini Croissants and Chocolate Mini-Croissants (12-pack, 12-ounce clear plastic clamshell containers with Whole Foods Market labels; all best-buy dates prior to and up until July 6, 2011) due to an undeclared egg wash. One allergy reaction has been reported. The recalled baked goods were sold in 26 Whole Foods Market stores in Northern California.

  • Food Safety Recall Update: USDA posts retail distribution list for boneless, fully cooked ham products recalled by Carolina Pride Foods, Inc. due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Sogo Foods Inc. (San Jose, CA) that a September/October 2010 inspection of the company's food manufacturing facility revealed misbranding of two products and also determined that products were prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby they may have become contaminated with filth, or whereby they may have been rendered injurious to heath.

  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Mai's Bakery, Corp. (Monterey Park, CA) that a March 2011 inspection of the company's manufacturing facility revealed serious violations of FDA's Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) regulation for manufacturing, packing, or holding human food.

  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns First Commercial Kitchen, L.L.C. (Waipahu, HI) that a December 2010 - February 2011 inspection of the company's food processing facility determined that your facility produced acidified foods and revealed that you have significant deviations from the requirements of the Acidified Food regulations, causing the company's acidified food products to be adulterated, in that they have been prepared, packed, or held under unsanitary conditions whereby they may have become contaminated with filth, or whereby they may have been rendered injurious to heath.

  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns BioSan Laboratories, Inc. (Derry, NH) that a December 2010 - January 2011 inspection of the company revealed significant violations of Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) regulations in Manufacturing, Packaging, Labeling, or Holding Operations for Dietary Supplements.


Canada
  • Outbreak Alert (Ontario): One patient at the Guelph General Hospital has died after suffering from a hospital-acquired infection with Clostridium difficile. The hospital declared a C. difficile outbreak on July 5th, after discovering 11 cases in May and June. The outbreak total now stands at 15 cases.


Europe
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Select Salmon A/S recalls Smoked Halibut (Lot #17411; Best before 15.07.2011), due to evidence of Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Biogan A/S recalls Organic fenugreek seeds (1-kg bags; Best before 05-10-2012, 21-02-2013 and 16-04-2013) because the seeds came from Egypt and may be contaminated with E. coli O104:H4.

  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Fausol A/S recalls Hornum Sprouts, Asia-Mix (30g; Item #1328), because the product contains fenugreek from Egypt and may be contaminated with E. coli O104:H4.

  • Food Safety Recall Expanded (Finland): Raisio Nutrition Ltd. expands its previous recall of Oat Oats, Organic Wheat Paahtopalat product, 260g pack. The recall was expanded to include the Best before date 08/20/2011 and batch ID #L02.25. The recalled packages have been buckling and may be contaminated.

  • Food Supplement Safety Notification (EU #2011.0909): Metal strips in calcium tablets with vitamin D3 from Germany, processed in Hungary; distributed to the Czech Republic, Germany and Hungary.

  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0910): Salmonella in frozen pork meat from France; distributed to Sweden.

  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0912): Undeclared sulphite in frozen prawns from Spain; distributed to Italy.

  • Allergy Alert Notification (EU #2011.0915): Undeclared milk ingredient in bread-crumbed fish fillets from France; distributed to Ireland and the United Kingdom.

  • Animal Feed Safety Notification (EU #2011.0917): Aflatoxins in maize gluten with raw material from China; distributed in Switzerland.

  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0920): Mercury in sliced swordfish from Spain; distributed to Italy.


Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands
  • Food Safety Alert (Taiwan): Taipei City health officials report that 5.6% (3 out of 54 samples) of iced snack and beverage ingredients failed tests for "problematic" food additives. Officials have ordered the three offending items - marble-sized black tapioca balls, taro beads, and konyaku - off the market.

  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Orient Europharma Co. Ltd. recalls Navelbine Injection 10mg/1ml (Batch 1P109), and Navelbine Injection 50mg/5ml (Batches P507 and P508), as part of a worldwide recall due to and out-of-trend result in content of an active ingredient.

  • Outbreak Alert (PRC): Spoiled leftovers served at an unlicensed kindergarten has been blamed for an episode of food poisoning that hospitalized 42 children in east Zhejiang Province.


Australia and New Zealand
  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Haigh's Manufacturing Pty Ltd recalls Haigh's Aprichoc Chocolates (300g cardboard gift box; Best before 29 OCT 11), due to the possible presence of undeclared nuts. The recalled chocolates were sold in Haigh's Chocolate Shops in New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria.
