Recalls and Alerts: March 25, 2013

United States
  • Allergy Alert: Gold Standard Baking (Chicago, IL) recalls Sweet P’s Bake Shop branded Caramel Apple Danish Coffee Cake because it contains undeclared walnuts.
  • Food Safety Recall: Triple J Family Farms (Buffalo Lake, MN) recalls approximately 15,270 pounds of bone-in ribeye products because the vertebral column may not have been completely removed, which is not compliant with regulations that require the removal of vertebral column in cattle 30 months of age or older.
  • Medical Device Safety Recall: LifeScan, Inc. recalls all OneTouch® Verio® IQ blood glucose meters because these products do not provide an appropriate warning at glucose levels of 1024 mg/dL or higher.
Canada
  • Allergy Alert: Lifestyle Evolution Inc. recalls NuGO, NuGO Slim, NuGO Free and NuGO Organic products that contain undeclared milk.
  • Allergy Alert: Nishimoto Trading Co. Ltd. recalls Kameda Baked Rice Cracker - Kotsubukko due to undeclared milk.
  • Allergy Alert: Mountain Top Foods Ltd. recalls M & M Meat Shops Gingered Beef due to undeclared mustard.
  • Allergy Alert: Marché Nazari/Les Marchés Tradition (Montreal, QC) recalls certain prepared dishes due to undeclared egg, milk and/or wheat.
  • Medical Device Safety Recall: LifeScan, Inc. recalls all OneTouch® Verio® IQ blood glucose meters because these products do not provide an appropriate warning at glucose levels of 1024 mg/dL or higher.
Europe
  • Allergy Alert (Luxembourg): The Food Safety Authority warns that Litopenaeus Vannamei Beira Nova Crevettes 40/60 surgelées contain undeclared sulfites.
  • Allergy Alert (Switzerland): Migros warns the public that Choc Midor Suisse biscuits may have been packaged in a few packages labeled as Choc Midor Rondo. In these cases, the packages contain hazelnuts, almonds and powdered proteins that are not adequately declared on the label.
  • Allergy Alert (UK): Gima UK Ltd withdraws various Bodrum branded dried fruit products because they contain sulphites which are not mentioned on the label.
  • Food Safety Recall (France): Société Stephan recalls Reflets de France chez Carrefour Pâté de Campagne au Porc Fermier due to possible presence of glass fragments.
  • Food Safety Recall (France): Carrefour recalls Carrefour Haricots Verts extra-Fins Cueillis et Rangés Main, 72 cl jar due to possible presence of glass fragments.
  • Food Safety Recall (Ireland): Nestlé recalls some of its Kit Kat Chunky bars and Kit Kat Chunky Easter Egg due to a small number of reports of little pieces of plastic in the bars.
  • Horse Meat Recall (Finland): Karelian Lihajaloste Oy recalls Kebab chips after undeclared horse meat DNA was detected in the product.
Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands
  • Food Safety Recall (Singapore): Nestlé Singapore recalls Kit Kat Chunky Peanut Butter, 48g bar because the product may contain plastic pieces.
  • Outbreak Alert (India): The Times of India reports that approximately 100 people fell ill with diarrhea after consuming food during a spiritual program at a village temple in Krishna district.
