United States
  • Allergy Alert: Mexicantown Wholesale (Detroit, MI) recalls all lots of cuernos (croissants) manufactured between 6/27/2010 and 12/28/2010 because they may contain undeclared milk. The recalled croissants were sold in retail stores in Michigan only.
  • Allergy Alert: Bach Cúc Beef Jerky, Inc. (South El Monte, CA) recalls Bach Cúc Teriyaki Beef Jerky produced between January 2010 and December 29, 2010 due to the presence of undeclared wheat.
  • Allergy Alert: Pilgrim's Pride (Boaz, AL) recalls Pierce Chicken Uncooked Hot & Spicy Breaded Chicken Wings Drummettes and Wing Portions and Sweet Georgia Brand Uncooked Hot & Spicy Breaded Chicken Wings 1st and 2nd Sections produced between January 1, 2010 and October 6, 2010 because the product contains undeclared egg. The recalled Chicken Wings were distributed to food service distribution centers nationwide for further distribution to restaurants.
  • Allergy Alert: Kroger recalls La Ranchera Wheat Tortillas Original, 33 oz. because the product contains undeclared milk. The recalled tortillas were sold in Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana.
  • Food Safety Recall: Tiny Greens (Urbana, IL) recalls all Alfalfa Sprouts and Spicy Sprouts from November 1st through December 21st, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The sprouts were distributed through various distributors in Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri for redistribution to restaurants and supermarkets near those areas.
  • Food Safety Recall: First Class Foods, Inc. (Hawthorne, CA) recalls Nature's Harvest Organic Ground Beef Brick (16 oz. pkg; Use or freeze by 12/30/10 or 01/08/11), Organic Harvest Organic Ground Beef Brick (16 oz. pkg; Use or freeze by 12/28/10 or 01/06/11) and Nature's Harvest Ground Patty (16 oz. pkg; Use or freeze by 12/30/10 or 01/08/11), because the products may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The ground beef products were shipped to retail establishments in California, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Washington State. Some of the Nature's Harvest ground beef was sold in Harris Teeter supermarkets.
  • Food Safety Recall: Wegmans recalls some packages of Wegmans Food You Feel Good About brand Italian Parsley, Curly Parsley and Cilantro, sold in 0.25-ounce packages in Wegmans stores in the Syracuse (NY), Rochester (NY), Buffalo (NY), Hornell (NY), Geneseo (NY), Erie (PA) and West Erie (PA). The herbs were recalled by J&D Produce (further packed by Boncheff for Wegmans), because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.
  • Food Safety Recall: BAVAN Food Company (Sacramento, CA) recalls BAVAN Brand Sugar Reori candy imported from India, because the candy contains unacceptable levels of lead.
  • Food Safety Recall: Raley's Family of Fine Stores (West Sacramento, CA) recalls HDC Whole Cantaloupes (available in-store from Dec 14 to Dec 17, 2010), because the cantaloupes may be contaminated with Salmonella. The cantaloupes were sold in Raley's, Bel Air, Nob Hill, and Food Source stores in California.
  • Food Safety Recall: Giant Food Stores advises customers that Terranetti - Roll Steak 6 count, 14 oz. has been recalled because of potential foreign material.
  • Food Safety Recall: Bethel Livestock Farm (Swan Lake, NY) expands its earlier recall of milk products to include Bethel Creamery Pasteurized Whole Organic Milk (Kosher Cholov Yisroel), packaged in half-gallon containers with a use by date of JAN 11 2011), because the milk was improperly pasteurized.
  • Food Safety Advisory: The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) and Pepin Heights Orchard are advising consumers to avoid drinking certain lot codes of Pepin Heights Orchard brand apple cider after MDA laboratory tests found the product may be contaminated with a type of mold toxin called patulin. The recalled cider was sold and distributed in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Arizona, Texas and Florida.
  • Food Safety Alert: The Missouri Department of Agriculture's Meat and Poultry Inspection program has temporarily halted custom exempt processing operations at Brinks Meat Processing (Salem, MO) due to unsanitary practices.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Recall: PRock Marketing LLC (Kissimmee, FL) recalls all lots of Fruta Planta and Reduce Weight Fruta Planta weight loss products, after FDA tests confirm that Fruta Planta contains sibutramine. FDA has received multiple reports of adverse effects associated with use of Fruta Planta.
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: Bausch + Lomb recalls Soothe® Xtra Hydration (XH) eye drops after receiving consumer reports of possible foreign matter in the tips of the bottles. Lab tests conducted by Bausch + Lomb have identified the foreign matter as mold. The recalled eye drops were distributed only in the USA.


Canada
  • Allergy Alert: Health Canada advises consumers that four probiotic natural health products have been recalled because they contain undeclared milk and/or soy protein.
  • Food Safety Recall: Boncheff Greenhouses (Toronto, ON) recalls Boncheff brand Fresh Cilantro, Fresh Dill, Fresh Curly Parsley and Fresh Italian Parsley, because the herbs may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled fresh herbs were distributed in Ontario. The herbs were supplied to Boncheff by J&D Produce Inc (Texas) and have been recalled by J&D.
  • Consumer Product Safety Recall: Sears Canada recalls reusable shopping bags after testing reveals high levels of lead in the items.


Europe
  • Food Safety Recall: Finnfrost Ltd. recalls Dujardin brand frozen spinach (expiration date 10/25/2012), manufactured by Unifrost NV of Belgium, because the product contains elevated E. coli levels.


Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands
  • Personal Care Product Safety Recall (Singapore): The Health Sciences Authority alerts consumers to the recall by distributors of Care Wipes (Tai Sun Paper Products Pte Ltd), Trihexid Chlorhexidine 0.2% Mouth Rinse (Trident Pharm Pte Ltd) and Perlie White Fluorinze Fluoride Mouth Rinse (Corlison Pte Ltd), because certain batches were found to be contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia bacteria.

  • Medical Device Safety Recall (December 24th): Abbott Laboratories (S) Pte Ltd recalls 43 lots of Abbott MediSense Optium™ Blood Glucose Tests Strips, because the tests strips may give a falsely low blood glucose reading.


Australia
  • Food Safety Recall (December 20th): Schweppes Australia recalls Cool Ridge Australian Spring Water (600mL clear plastic bottles; Best before 06/11/11), due to possible chlorine contamination. The recalled water was distributed in Queensland (various retail outlets) and New South Wales (IGA supermarkets) only.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 23rd): Franklins Pty Ltd recalls Farmfresh Half Bone In Leg Ham (5-6Kg clear plastic cryovac packaging; Use by 24/01/11 to 29/01/11, inclusive) because of an unwholesome odor that persists after opening. The recalled hams were sold in Franklins supermarkets in New South Wales only.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Alert (December 23rd): The Therapeutic Goods Administration warns consumers that Slimming Factor weight loss capsules (sold over the internet), which claim to be 100% herbal, have been confirmed to contain undeclared sibutramine, fenfluramine and phenolphthalein. All three of these undeclared and unauthorized ingredients carry significant safety risks.


Mexico
  • Allergy Alert (December 17th): YNot Foods, Inc. (Madison, WI) recalls Upsides™ Orzo Toscano (6/2.5lb, distributed by J.R. Simplot) because the product contains undeclared milk and soy. The product was distributed through foodservice and retail channels in several US states and was exported to Mexico.


Puerto Rico
  • Medical Device Safety Recall (December 22nd): Abbott Diabetes Care recalls 359 lots (approximately 359 million strips) of Precision Xtra®, Precision Xceed Pro®, MediSense® Optium™, Optium™, OptiumEZ and ReliOn® Ultima Blood Glucose Test Strips, because the test strips may give falsely low blood glucose results. The recalled test strips were distributed across the USA and in Puerto Rico.

  • Food Safety Recall (December 20th): CDC SAS recalls Reynaud, Latian, Casino Delices and Monoprix Gourmet brands of Tarama with egg and trout (100g; Lot #6463), because the product may contain Listeria monocytogenes.

  • Cosmetic Product Safety Recall (December 27th): France has initiated a recall of several imported hair-straightening products, because they contain formaldehyde in excess of permitted limits.   • Food Safety Recall (December 24th): McCain Foods (GB) Ltd. recalls McCain Sweet Potato with Rosemary and Garlic, 400g bag (Product of South Africa; all batch codes), because some packs may contain pieces of grit embedded with the sweet potatoes.

  • Allergy Alert (December 22nd): Federated Co-operatives Ltd. (Saskatoon, SK) recalls all lot codes of Quaker brand Chewy Granola Bars Value Pack (14 bars; 364g), because the packs may contain Quaker brand Dipps granola bars that contain peanuts. The affected packs were previously recalled on November 24th, but may have been distributed after the original recall through Co-op retail stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.
  • Allergy Alert (December 22nd): Heng Hing Dry Seafood Inc. recalls Fei Dun Chocolates (all best before dates), because the product contains undeclared peanuts.
  • Allergy Alert (December 22nd): CFIA advises consumers that the importer has recalled VSC Chocolats Brandy Beans Brandy Liqueur Chocolates (200g package; made in Germany; lot code L7058 J8 and L7157 J8), because the product may contain undeclared milk. The recalled chocolates were distributed across Canada.
  • Allergy Alert (December 24th): Brand Castle LLC (Chicago, IL) recalls Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats Holiday Village Kit (666g package; all best before dates), because the product contains undeclared egg. The kits, which were imported from the USA, are known to have been distributed in Michael's, Winners and HomeSense stores across Canada, and may also have been sold in other stores.
  • Allergy Alert (December 27th): Thrifty Foods Broadmead (Victoria, BC) recalls in-store baked Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies, incorrectly labelled as Chocolate Chip Cookies (Best Before 29 DE 10).
  • Food Safety Recall (December 21st): Réal Veer Inc. (Sainte-Claire, QC) recalls raw shell eggs, imported from the USA (lot code SEA-1024796; Best before JAN-18-11) because the eggs may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled eggs were distributed in the province of Québec.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 21st): Yie Ming (Canada) Ltd., recalls Yu Yuan brand vacuum packed Sweet Glutinous Corn (all lot codes), imported from China, because the product may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. The recalled product was sold in British Columbia.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 22nd): McCormick Canada recalls certain lot codes of Club House One Step Lemon and Herbs Seasoning, Club House Sesame Seeds, Sysco Sesame Seeds and Trade East Sesame Seeds, because the products may be contaminated with Salmonella.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 24th): Whole Foods Market (Toronto, ON) recalls Rolf's Patisserie brand and Whole Foods Market brand Ginger Bread Houses, imported from the USA, because the products may be contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus. The recalled ginger bread houses were sold in Whole Foods stores in Ontario.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 27th): J & D Produce Inc. (Texas, USA) recalls Little Bear brand fresh greens (shipped to Canada between November 30th and December 7th, inclusive), because the fresh greens may be contaminated with Salmonella. The affected production codes are 987SEP301001, 987OCT071001 and 987OCT081001.
  • Allergy Alert (December 17th): Tofutti Brands Inc. expands its earlier recall of 4-pack Yours Truly Frozen Dessert Cones to include lot number 2360. The recalled Dessert Cones, which are labeled "Milk-Free," contain undeclared milk
  • Allergy Alert (December 23rd): Brand Castle, LLC recalls its licensed Rice Krispies Treats Holiday Village Kit (expiration dates 15 Oct 2012, 16 Oct 2012 and 02 Nov 2012), distributed only through Michaels retail stores in the USA and Canada, because the icing component contains undeclared egg.
  • Allergy Alert (December 23rd): South Florida Bakery recalls all lot codes of Publix Bakery Coconut Macaroons (Coquitos), because the products contain a small amount of undeclared milk.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 17th): Sally Jackson Cheese (Oroville, WA) recalls all cheese products, including cow, goat and sheep, because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. Sally Jackson cheese are made using raw cow, goat and sheep milk and were distributed nationwide to restaurants, distributors and retail stores.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 17th): Winn Meats Co. (Dallas, TX) recalls 25,600 pounds of ground beef products that were improperly labeled and potentially adulterated.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 20th): Bright Water Seafood (Tucker, GA) recalls Buffalo Krab Dip (7-ounce pkg; expiration 12/21/2010) and Southwest Krab Dip (7-ounce pkg; expiration 12/29/2010), because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled items were distributed in retail stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Georgia and Virginia.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 20th): Whole Foods Market recalls cheeses supplied by Sally Jackson Cheese (Oroville, WA) and sold in California, Nevada, Washington State and Washington DC, because the cheese may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 23rd): JFC International, Inc. (Los Angeles, CA) recalls all of its uneviscerated Frozen Capelin, because the fish (imported from Vietnam) may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 24th): Rolf's Patisserie (Lincolnwood, IL) recalls all desserts made after November 1, 2010 after the desserts were linked to several outbreaks of Staphylococcus aureus food poisoning. The recalled products include tiramisu, cakes, cobblers, decorated cookies, tarts, pastries and pies and were available through retail (including grocery stores), wholesale and internet sales, and were distributed through a catering service and to institutions such as nursing homes. One hundred cases of food poisoning – three in Illinois (30 illnesses) and one in Wisconsin (70 illnesses) – have been reported from four separate events in November and December.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 24th): Whole Foods Market recalls items supplied by Rolf's Patisserie and sold in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Please follow the live link for a detailed list of recalled items.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 24th): Whole Foods Market recalls all assembled Ginger Bread Houses made after November 1, 2010 and sold in 22 states, because the ginger bread houses were supplied by Rolf's Patisserie.
  • Food Safety Alert (December 27th): FDA advises consumers not to eat Alfalfa Sprouts and Spicy Sprouts (which contain alfalfa sprouts mixed with radish and clover sprouts) from Tiny Greens Organic Farm (Urbana, IL), after preliminary results link the sprouts to a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections.
  • Food Safety Recall (December 28th): J&D Produce Inc. recalls Little Bear brand Fresh Greens packed on November 30th and December 6th after regulators in Quebec detect Salmonella in a sample of curly parsley and regulators in Detroit detect Salmonella in a sample of cilantro.   • Allergy Alert: Canada Safeway Limited recalls Quaker brand Chewy Granola Bars Value Pack (14 bars, 364g; all lot codes) due to the presence of undeclared peanuts. The bars were recalled on November 24th by Quaker Canada, but may have been distributed, subsequent to the original recall, throughout Canada Safeway retail stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

  • Food Safety Recall (South Korea): Shan Food Sales recalls "CJW Spicy Offal Sauce" (Best before 11.5.2), due to the presence of metal fragments.


Australia and New Zealand
  • Allergy Alert (Australia): Coles Supermarket Ltd. recalls Coles Bakery Fresh Mars Cookies (6 pack, clear plastic container with black and beige label; Best before 25 October 2010 up to and including 22 December 2010), due to the presence of undeclared peanuts and tree nuts. The cookies were distributed nationally through Coles Supermarkets, Bi-Lo, Pick'N' (Qld) and Coles On-line.
  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Lei Phat Trading Pty Ltd. recalls Yellow Catfish Cleaned (Exp 15/09/2012) and Red Tilapia Gutted (Exp 17/09/2012) frozen whole fish imported from Vietnam, because antibiotics have been detected in the products. The recalled fish products were sold in Asian grocery stores and supermarkets in South Australia.

  • Allergy Alert: Brinkman Turkey Farms Inc. (Findlay, OH) recalls Brinkman's Gourmet Barbecue Sauce (22-oz. glass jars, 40-oz. glass jars and 160-oz. plastic jugs), because the product contains undeclared milk and soy. The recalled products were distributed to retail stores and distribution centers in Ohio and direct to consumers in Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and Iowa.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns New Wha Ming Trading of MN, Inc. (New Hope, MN) that a July 2010 inspection of the company's food warehouse revealed serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice in Manufacturing, Packing or Holding Human Food (CGMP) regulation, rendering the food products adulterated under the meaning of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Fujino Enterprises, Inc. (Montara, CA) that a July/August 2010 inspection of the company's seafood processing facility revealed serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation and the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulation for foods.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Tws Marketing Group Inc. (Longwood, FL) that a review of the label for the company's HomeMaker Premium 100% Pure Florida Squeezed Orange Juice, 64 oz. determined that the product is misbranded. The label statement "Made With Not From Concentrate Juice" is misleading because, according to the list of ingredients declared on the label, the product contains orange juice concentrate as well as juice that is expressed directly from oranges.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Soma Labs, Inc. (Middlesex, NJ) that a June/July 2010 inspection of the company's dietary supplement manufacturing facility revealed serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulations for Dietary Supplements, causing certain dietary supplement products to be adulterated.
  • Food Recall: Price Chopper recalls Price Chopper Fat Free Cream Cheese (8 oz brick), because the product is of inadequate quality.
  • Food Recall: Adirondack Beverages recalls Waist Watchers Diet Root Beer (12 pack/144 oz.) because there is no deposit listed on the cans. Consumers should return the product to Price Chopper for a full refund.
