The China Syndrome: UK Recalls White Rabbit Candy

The UK Food Standards Agency announced today that it had found White Rabbit Creamy Candy on sale in the UK and had ordered the candies withdrawn from sale and destroyed. The candies are sold in Chinese supermarkets and other independent stores throughout the country.

The government took this action because several batches of these made-in-China candies have been found to contain significant quantities of melamine.

FSA advises that the following candies are subject to recall and destruction and should not be consumed.

  • White Rabbit Creamy Candies (227g) – Best before date: 20 January 2010
  • White Rabbit Creamy Candies (227g) – Best before date: 20 May 2010
  • White Rabbit Creamy Candies (454g) – Best before date: 20 May 2010

White Rabbit candies already have been recalled in several countries and territories, including Canada, the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Ireland, and Singapore.
