The China Syndrome: Ontario Importer Recalls Chinese Pretzels

Dai Jung Distributing (Scarborough, ON) has recalled two varieties of OK OK Kaiser brand pretzels after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency detected melamine in the products.

The recalled items, which were distributed only in Ontario, are:

• Kaiser Strawberry Dressing Pretzel; UPC 4 710757 036608, approx. 40g
  
• Kaiser Choco Dressing Pretzel; UPC 4 710757 036301, 50g
  

These products do not carry any batch codes or date codes.

CFIA has not indicated the level of melamine that it detected in the pretzels, but states that the health risk is low. This is the first reported detection of melamine in OK OK Kaiser brand pretzels by any regulatory agency.
