Recall Roundup: August 10, 2010

United States
  • Allergy Alert: Tiger King Inc. (56-09 56th Drive, Maspeth, NY) recalls Rehmat brand Apricots (7-ounce plastic bag) due to the presence of undeclared sulfites. Rehmat Apricots were distributed in the Brooklyn and Queens boroughs of New York City and in Nassau and Suffolk Counties of New York.
  • Food Safety Recall: Super H Mart Corp. recalls several bucket containers of Mat Kimchi and Pogi Kimchi processed in its commissary because of the potential for the products to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The contamination was found as a result of routine testing carried out by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
  • Food Safety Recall: Mexicali Cheese Corp (Woodhaven, NY) recalls grated Queso Cotija Cheese (14-ounce clear plastic packages with a plant code of #36-0128 and with “SELL BY 102910”), due to possible Staphylococcus aureus contamination, after New York State found high levels of Staphylcoccus aureus in a routine sample. The recalled cheese was distributed in the borough of Queens, New York.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Johnson Sea Products, Inc. (Coden, AL) that an inspection of the company's seafood processing facility revealed serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation and the Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) regulation for foods.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Sunic's Food, Inc., d.b.a. Sun Food Trading Company (Seattle, WA) that a May 2010 inspection of the company's establishment revealed a serious violation of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Big Daddy's Creamery, LLC, dba Theno's Dairy (Redmond, WA) that an April 2010 inspection of the company's ice cream manufacturing facility revealed serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) regulation for foods, including the presence of rodents, insects and birds.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns O.H. Kruse Grain & Milling Company / Western Milling Company (Goshen, CA) that a March 2010 investigation of the company's operations, undertaken as the result of a complaint made by a local dairy farm, found that the firm failed to implement adequate safeguards to prevent unsafe contamination in the production of medicated and nonmedicated feeds.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns American Pecan Co., LLC (Yancey, TX) that a January/February 2010 inspection of the company's repackaging facility revealed the presence of Salmonella oranienburg in a sample of ready-to-eat raw pecans, as well as in several locations in the production environment. American Pecan Co. recalled the affected product on February 26, 2010.


Europe
  • Food Safety Recall (Finland): Hundika Oy recalls VigRX Plus dietary supplement, imported and distributed by Hundika, because the product contains the banned dye, erythrosin, was irradiated in contravention of Finnish regulations, and lacks Finnish and Swedish labeling.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.1093): Salmonella in raw eggs from Poland; distributed in Romania.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.1094): Formetanate in yellow long peppers from Turkey; distributed in Austria and Germany.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.1095): Unauthorised irradiation of Korean kimchi from Taiwan; distributed in the United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.1096): Listeria monocytogenes in gorgonzola cheese from Italy; distributed in France.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.1097): Fosthiazate in cucumbers from Greece; distributed in Greece.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.1098): Risk of internal injuries as a result of the consumption (lactose crystals 2-5 mm) of sliced cheese from Italy; distributed in the Czech Republic.
  • Food Supplement Safety Notification (EU #2010.1099): Unauthorized substance sildenafil in food supplement from China, via the United Kingdom; distributed in Latvia.

  1. Is there any way we can find out which animal feed products are manufactured by O.H.Kruse Grain and Milling/Western Milling, the company in Goshen, CA (i.e., under what brand names are their products carried or for which labels do they produce foods)?
