Recall Roundup: August 13, 2010

United States
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Recall: Prolatis’ (Salt Lake City, UT) recalls the company’s product sold under the name Prolatis’, because the product contains Sulfoaildenafil, an analogue of Sildenafil, an FDA-approved drug used as treatment for male Erectile Dysfunction (ED), making Prolatis’ an unapproved drug. The active drug ingredient is not listed on the product label. Product manufactured prior to August 9, 2010 is included in this recall. Prolatis’ is sold nationwide in double blister packs and 40 count bottles.
  • Food Safety Recall (Update): USDA updates retail distribution list for frozen ground beef patties and ground beef recalled by Valley Meat Company (Modesto, CA) due to contamination with E. coli O157:H7.


Canada
  • Allergy Alert: Maple Leaf Consumer Foods recalls Shopsy's Original Recipe brand Jumbo Franks (450g; Best before 2010, SE 062010 SE 16, and 2010 SE 27) because the product contains undeclared wheat. The recalled franks were distributed only in Ontario.

  1. Thanks for the heads up on this one. Valley Meat was going to be dinner tonight (burger night). Guess it's pizza night!

  2. Just a head-up - Merrick Pet Treats has expanded their Aug. 3 recall of Beef filet dog treats and Texas Hold'ems pet treats to ALL lots of these products packaged in 10-oz. bags. The treats could be contaminated with Salmonella. According to their press release on the retail and USDA websites, Merrick has removed the items from online sales and notified their nationwide distribution and resellers networks to pull the products. Consumers should return the bagged, sealed products to stores for a full refund - don't feed these treats to pets, don't handle them, and wash hands if you do have to touch them.
