Recall Roundup: January 9, 2010

United States
  • Food Safety Recall: Parkers Farm, Inc. (Coon Rapids, MN) recalls Parkers Farm and Parkers brand peanut butters, cold pack cheeses, bagel spreads, dips and salsas after the Minnesota Department of Agriculture detects Listeria monocytogenes in some of the finished products. Parkers Farm and Parker products are sold nationwide at Hy-Vee, Cub, Rainbow, Lunds/Byerly’s, Target, Whole Foods, Jewel, Dominicks and Marsh stores.
  • Food Safety Recall: The Kroger Co. recalls Kroger Port Wine Cold Pack Cheese Food (8 oz), Kroger Sharp Cheddar Cold Pack Cheese Food (8 oz), and Kroger Swiss Almond Cold Pack Cheese Food (8 oz), due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were sold in Kroger stores in many states (follow live link for details), as well as in Dillons, Jay C and Shelbyville stores. This recall may be related to the Parker Farms recall, listed above.
  • Food Safety Recall: Giant Eagle recalls several Giant Eagle and Food Club hash brown potato products, due to bacterial contamination. This is the third recall of private label hash brown potato products in recent days. Earlier recalls were announced by Food City and ShopRite. The ShopRite announcement mentioned Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
  • FDA Enforcement Action: FDA files consent decree of permanent injunction against Congressional Seafood Company Inc. (Jessup, MD) for continued failure to comply with Seafood HACCP regulations under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. The injunction bars the company and three of its executives from processing and shipping fish and seafood until FDA determines that it is in full compliance with all provisions of the Act and Regulations.

Canada
  • Allergy Alert: Denise Cornellier Traiteur Inc. (Montréal, QC) recalls Cornellier Traiteur brand chicken & vegetable pâté, Glenkinchie chocolate sauce and seafood cassolette, due to the presence of undeclared eggs, soy protein and/or sulfites. All products purchased up to and including January 8, 2010 are included in this advisory.
