Recall Roundup: April 17, 2010

United States
  • Allergy Alert: StarKist Co. recalls 11.4 oz packages of SeaSations® Thai with Basil (UPC # 80000 50007) and SeaSations® Teriyaki Orange and Ginger (UPC # 80000 50112) frozen white whole fish fillet products, due to the presence of undeclared wheat. The recalled test-market products are in limited retail distribution in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
  • Allergy Alert: Green Land recalls Nut Tree Health Mix (Code date SEP 28 10), due to the presence of undeclared sulfites. The product of the United States, Turkey and the Philippines was distributed in the metropolitan New York area.
  • Food Safety Recall: The California Department of Public Health warns consumers not to eat Wo Chong brand alfalfa and clover sprouts because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The Wo Chong sprouts are packaged in 4-ounce plastic containers and 1-pound plastic bags. The 4-ounce plastic containers have either a green or red two inch round sticker on them. The green stickers have the words “Alfalfa Sprouts” in the center and the red stickers have the words “Clover Sprouts” in the center. “Wo Chong Co., Inc.” and UPC codes are listed on the bottom of the stickers. The UPC code for alfalfa sprouts is 027862000108. The UPC code for clover spouts is 027862003017. The one-pound plastic bags have 3-inch square labels with “Clover Sprouts” in red letters and a circular blue Wo Chong symbol in the upper left corner on the front side of the bag.
  • Food Safety Recall: WinCo Foods expands its earlier recall of fresh ground beef to include fresh ground beef purchased at all WinCo Foods stores between March 26, 2010 and April 10, 2010. The recalled ground beef may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
  • Food Safety Recall: GIANT® Food Stores recalls Giant Spinach/Artichoke Dip (8 oz., UPC 68826702988) after receiving notification from its supplier that the raw spinach ingredient tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Food Recall: Food City advises consumers that the manufacturer has recalled several Cascadian Farm brand frozen vegetables.


Canada
  • Allergy Alert: Bridor Inc. (Boucherville, QC) recalls Chocolatines Congelees (UPC 2 00271 21480 3), sold by Boulangerie Au Pain Doré. The recalled product, which was distributed only in the province of Québec, contains undeclared eggs.
  • Food Safety Recall: Jacques Lemieux (Grossiste) Inc. (Montmagny, QC) recalls BBQ Peanuts and BBQ Sunflowers, because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled products, which were distributed in Québec and New Brunswick, contain hydrolyzed vegetable protein supplied by Basic Food Flavors.

Europe


Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands
  • Pharmaceutical Product Alert (Saudi Arabia): The Saudi Food and Drug Administration warns consumers to avoid using unregistered pharmaceutical products advertised and supplied by The Saudi-Singaporean Factory.
  • Herbal Pharmaceutical Enforcement Action (Saudi Arabia): The Saudi Food and Drug Administration announces that it has closed the Zain Al Atat Herbal Products Store of Al Ta-meer Shopping Center in Riyadh, because the store was selling banned pharmaceutical products.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.0478): Listeria monocytogenes in sausages from France; distributed in Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, Côte d'Ivoire, France, French Polynesia, Gabon, Guyana, Hong Kong, Mayotte, New Caledonia, Senegal, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.


Latin America and Caribbean
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2010.0478): Listeria monocytogenes in sausages from France; distributed in Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, Côte d'Ivoire, France, French Polynesia, Gabon, Guyana, Hong Kong, Mayotte, New Caledonia, Senegal, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
