International Peanut Butter Recalls & Notices

The international community is watch the US Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak and peanut butter recalls closely. 

Peanut Corporation of America shipped some of its peanut butter products to customers in Canada, Korea and Haiti. In addition, certain of PCA's commercial customers in the United States exported products containing peanut butter to other countries.

Following is a list of recall notices, alerts and "all clear" reports from countries other than the United States and Canada. This list will be updated as more information becomes available.

Abbott Nutrition has recalled ZonePerfect® Chocolate Peanut Butter bars, ZonePerfect® Peanut Toffee bars and NutriPals™ Peanut Butter Chocolate bars. The nutrition bars were distributed in the United States, Mexico, New Zealand and Singapore.

The New Zealand Food Safety Authority advises consumers that Abbott Nutrition (Aukland, NZ) has recalled all batches of ZonePerfect Peanut Toffee Bars (50g size). The bars were distributed in supermarkets and specialized nutrition stores throughout New Zealand. No other Abbott products sold in New Zealand are affected.

The Philippines Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) is maintaining a link on is website to the FDA list of recalled products. BFAD has not announced any product recalls in that country as of January 22nd.

The UK Food Standards Agency has issued a Food Alert to UK consumers, with links to the recall lists posted by FDA in the United States, and by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Separately, Lärabar has recalled the following products:

Jan 24, 2009: Lärabar extended its UK recall of Lärabar Peanut Butter Cookie flavor snack bars to include all codes, dates and sizes.

Feb 10, 2009: The UK Food Standards Agency has alerted consumers to a recall of the following energy bars, imported from the United States:

• Clif Bar Crunchy Peanut Butter flavour (68 g): Best before 7NOV2008 to 31DEC2009
  
• Luna Nutz over Chocolate flavour (48 g): Best before 2008 OCT28 to 2009DE31
  

The UK Food Standards Agency has alerted consumers to a recall notice issued by Bounce Snack Foods (UK) Ltd. Bounce Snack has recalled Bounce Premium Protein Balls bearing the Best By dates 10 December 2008, 20 December 2008, 10 January 2009, 11 January 2009, 07 February 2009, 08 February 2009, 18 March 2009, 19 March 2009, 27 March 2009, 24 April 2009, 25 April 2009, and 28 April 2009. On February 27th, Bounce Snack Foods expanded its earlier recall notice to include all Best By dates up to and including 2 November 2009.

The European Food Safety Authority has alerted member countries that some recalled products may have entered the EU consumer distribution network.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has alerted Irish manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, caterers and retailers to the US peanut product recalls.

The Cayman Islands Department of Environmental Health has warned the public that some US-manufactured peanut butter snack products may be contaminated.

The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) has advised the public that no peanut butter or peanut paste from Peanut Corporation of America was shipped directly to customers in Singapore. Nevertheless, AVA warns that some US-made products that contain suspect peanut butter or paste may have entered Singapore. AVA has posted a link to the consolidated recall list posted by the US Food and Drug Administration.

Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety has advised the public not to consume Health Valley brand Organic Peanut Crunch Chewy Granola Bars (6.1 oz box; UPC #0-35742-15483-4; lot codes 13JUN09, 14JUN09 and 28JUL09), manufactured by Lovin Oven. These granola bars, which were recalled in the United States in response to the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak, may have been imported into the Territory.

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has learned that 79 kilograms of contaminated peanut butter was imported into Japan last year. The peanut butter has yet been distributed in Japan. Ministry authorities are checking for any other recalled product that may have entered the country.

Vietnam: The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has warned consumers to avoid eating an imported peanut butter (brand not named), identified by batch codes 03FEB9B and 29APR09B. The peanut butter was imported into Vietnam by An Nam Food Company.

Brown & Haley

Brown & Haley has recalled the following products, distributed internationally as indicated.

According to the Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety, the 560g Gift Box was on sale in Mannings during the Chinese New Year period. In addition, CFS reports that the following Brown & Haley product was available in Circle K and Vango convenience stores.

LesserEvil Brand Snack Co.

LesserEvil has recalled all lot codes of LesserEvil Peanut Butter And Choco Kettle Corn, packaged in a 3.65 oz bag in a box. The snack is sold through distributors to grocery and specialty stores across the United States. It also is included in some gift baskets and can be purchased over the Internet. LesserEvil also exports this product to Canada and Japan.

The recalled Kettle Corn can be identified in the United States and Japan by UPC #180999000356; the product exported to Canada is sold under UPC #180999000516.
