The recalled Mochi has been linked to two reported allergy-related illnesses. An individual who is allergic to peanuts may suffer a life-threatening allergic reaction if he or she consumes even a small portion of the Mochi.
The imported product was distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec, and may also have been sold elsewhere in Canada.
The importers of the Taiwan-made Mochi are cooperating with CFIA in the recall effort. Consumers who purchased the product should either discard it safely or return it to the retailer for a refund.
