Recall Roundup: December 14, 2009

Europe
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Recall (UK): Reckitt Benckiser announces a wholesale and pharmacy level recall, on two batches of 500ml bottles of Gaviscon Advance Peppermint Flavour; batch numbers 924471 and 925071, after finding low-level bacterial contamination in one of the batches.
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Recall (UK): Chefaro UK Limited recalls batch #112 of Metatone (a tonic) after very small amounts of petrol were found in the product.
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Recall (UK): Proctor & Gamble (Health & Beauty Care) Ltd is carrying out a precautionary recall on one batch of Vicks Sinex Micromist 15 ml Nasal Spray (batch number 9224028832) at wholesale and pharmacy level. The expiry date is 12 August 2013. This is due to the detection of bacterial contamination during routine testing of a batch in the USA. The UK batch was derived from the same bulk batch as the US batch.
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Recall (UK): Pinewood Laboratories Limited is carrying out a precautionary recall on three medicines, Boots Heartburn Relief Peppermint Flavour, Peptac Peppermint Liquid (Ivax Pharmaceuticals UK) and Peptac Liquid Aniseed Flavour (Ivax Pharmaceuticals UK) due to a low-level bacterial contamination detected in three batches.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1729): Listeria monocytogenes in smoked sweet herring fillets from Lithuania; distributed in France.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1728): Salmonella Molade (presence /25g) in hulled sesame seeds from India; distributed in Norway.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1727): Unauthorised substance moxidectine in boiled halve ducks from China; distributed in Germany.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1726): Excessive E 950 - Acesulfame K in strawberry-cream candies from Poland, via the Czech Republic; distributed in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1725): Unauthorised substance sulphaquinoxaline in frozen chicken breast fillets from Brazil; distributed in the Netherlands.
  • Undeclared Allergen Notification (EU #2009.1724): Undeclared soya in sausages from Poland; distributed in Slovakia.
  • Undeclared Allergen Notification (EU #2009.1723): Undeclared soya and unauthorised use of colour E 110 - Sunset Yellow FCF in sausages from Poland; distributed in Poland and Slovakia.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1722): Salmonella in frozen raw ground beef from Italy; distributed in Andorra and France.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU # 2009.1721): Foreign body (piece of translucent plastic) in tiramisu from Italy; distributed in France.
  • Consumer Product Safety Notification (EU #2009.1720): Migration of DEHP - di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (16.1 %) from whipped cream set from the Netherlands; distributed in the Czech Republic.
  • Consumer Product Safety Notification (EU #2009.1719): Migration of formaldehyde from plastic ladle from Austria; distributed in Austria.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1718): Abnormal smell of prepared infant formula bottle from Germany; distributed in Spain.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1717): Mercury (3.9 mg/kg - ppm) in frozen porbeagle loins (Lamna nasus) from Chile, dispatched from Spain; distributed in France.


Asia, Africa & The Pacific
  • Food Safety Recall (Vietnam): Tan Phat dried melon seeds recalled due to presence of rhodamine B, a potentially carcinogenic dye that is banned for food use. The seeds were sold at the Han Market in Da Nang.
