Recall Roundup: December 18, 2009

United States

• Allergy Alert: Faribault Foods announced that it is recalling Health Valley Organic No Salt Added Split Pea Soup (15 oz.) with the lot codes 22JUL2011, 18AUG2011, and 11SEP2011 because of the presence of an undeclared dairy allergen.
• Food Safety Recall: Willamette Filbert Growers (Newberg, OR) recalls 29,861 lbs of Shelled Hazelnuts and Shelled Organic Hazelnuts, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled nuts were packed under the Willamette Filbert Growers or Meridian Organic Hazelnuts brand names.
• Food Safety Recall: Willamette Shelling (Newberg, OR) recalls 114,350 lbs of Shelled Hazelnuts, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled nuts were packed under the following brand names: Kunze Farms, Evonuk Oregon Hazelnuts, Canadian Hazelnuts, and Firestone Farms.

Canada

• Allergy Alert: Retour Aux Sources and Florimeault Les Sucres, (Saint-Aubert, QC) recall four products that contain undeclared soy, milk, peanuts or sulfite. The recalled items were available at numerous retail stores in the province of Québec.

Europe

• Animal Feed Safety Notification (EU #2009.1749): Salmonella in processed animal protein derived from poultry from Spain; distributed in Belgium.
• Food Defect Notification (EU #2009.1750): Chemical taste of pea soup with smoked sausage from Belgium; distributed in Belgium and the Netherlands.
• Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1751): Listeria monocytogenes in smoked salmon from the United Kingdom; distributed in Switzerland.
• Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1752): Excessive E 950 - Acesulfame K (food additive) in hard sweets from Switzerland; distributed in Denmark.
• Food Safety Notification (EU #2009.1753): Excessive E 950 - Acesulfame K (food additive) in varied candies from Switzerland; distributed in Denmark.
