Recall Roundup: December 17, 2009

Here is today's list of food safety recalls, product withdrawals and allergy alerts. The live links will take you directly to the official recall notices and company news releases that contain detailed information for each recall and alert.



United States
  • Allergy Alert: Cardona's Market Inc. (Albany, NY) recalls all lot codes of its Vodka Sauce (25 oz jars) because the sauce may contain undeclared milk.
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Recall: Food City and Price Chopper advise consumers that Top Care Milk of Magnesia (regular and mint flavors) has been recalled. Due to a labeling error, the amount of calcium and magnesium per tablespoon is understated.
  • Food Safety Advisory: Barf Blog warns that head cheese originating in New Hamburg, MO may be contaminated with Salmonella. The original warning was issued by the Scott County Health Department.

Asia, Africa & The Pacific
  • Food Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Food Safety warns consumers about noodlefish that may contain formaldehyde, an unauthorized preservative, after a food surveillance exercise detected high levels of formaldehyde in one noodlefish sample (out of a total of ten samples).
  • Enforcement Action (Hong Kong): The Department of Health announces the arrest of an individual for selling slimming product with undeclared drugs on the Internet.
