United States
- Pet Food Safety Alert: Minnesota Department of Agriculture alerts consumers to avoid feeding or handling Nestlé Purina PetCare Company's Purina One Vibrant Maturity 7+ Adult Premium Cat Food (3.5-lb bag; Best By MAY 2012; Production Code 03341084 1936L11), after state agriculture department product sampling detected Salmonella in a sample of the product.
- Beach Closure (Oregon): Oregon Department of Agriculture closes recreational mussel harvesting on Oregon Coast beaches north of Cape Meares due to elevated levels of paralytic shellfish toxins.
- Beach Closure (Washington): Beaches directly on the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Discovery Bay to Neah Bay are closed to recreational shellfish harvesting because of elevated levels of paralytic shellfish toxins.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0877): Fumosins in maize and buckwheat flour from Italy; distributed to Australia, Italy and the USA.
Canada
- Beach Closure (Ontario): Lakeside Beach (Kingsville) and Seacliff Beach (Leamington) are closed to swimming due to elevated levels of E. coli int he water. Swimming is also not recommended at Sandpoint Beach (Windsor) or West Belle River Beach (Lakeshore).
Europe
- Outbreak Alert Update (France and Germany): An elderly woman in Bordeaux has died of kidney disease caused by an E. coli infection, due to a different strain from the E. coli O104:H4 that has claimed 50 lives - 48 of them in Germany - and has sickened more than 4,000 people in 16 countries. Thompson & Morgan, the UK company that packaged the fenugreek seeds implicated in the German and French E. coli O104:H4 outbreaks, has confirmed that their supplier sourced the organic fenugreek seeds in Egypt.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0865): E. coli O157:H7 (eae+, stx1+) in bovine meat from Belgium, with raw material from France; distributed to Belgium and the Netherlands.
- Animal Feed Safety Notification (EU #2011.0866): Dioxins in fish meal from Mauritania; distributed to the Czech Republic.
- Pet Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0869): Salmonella in dog chew from Germany; distributed to Austria.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0870): E. coli O157 in Marvest brand frozen minced beef from Germany; distributed to Greece.
- Animal Feed Safety Notification (EU #2011.0871): Salmonella in palm kernexpellers from Indonesia, via the Netherlands; distributed to Sweden.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0873): E. coli O157 in frozen spicy minced beef - mini kebabs from Germany; distributed to Greece.
- Allergy Alert Notification (EU #2011.0874): Undeclared egg in prepared bread mixture from Germany; distributed to Slovenia.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0876): Ivermectin in corned beef from Brazil; distributed to the United Kingdom.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0877): Fumosins in maize and buckwheat flour from Italy; distributed to Australia, Italy and the USA.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0878): Mercury in frozen swordfish from Sri Lanka; distributed to France.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0879): Salmonella in curry from Belgium; distributed to the Netherlands.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0880): Benzopyrene in smoked smelts in oil from Latvia; distributed to Ireland and the United Kingdom.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0881): Salmonella Derby in mussels from Italy; distributed to Italy and Hong Kong.
Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands
- Food Safety Seizure and Recall (Vietnam): The Dat Nam Co. Ltd., producer of Aquasun Mineral Water was suspended from operation after inspectors from the municipal Department of Health found Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the water. More than 1,000 bottles of water have been seized, and a recall has been ordered. More than 50 of the 500 bottled water enterprises inspected by the department produced bottled water contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Dat Nam and the Ke Ba Company were reported to be repeat offenders.
- Outbreak Alert (India): A cholera outbreak in the Wayanad district has resulted in the hospitalization of as many as 114 people. Five people are reported in critical condition.
- Outbreak Alert (India): Forty-six cases of diarrhea have been reported in Ropar in the past week. Five people have been hospitalized, including two foreigners.
- Outbreak Alert (Spain): Eighty-seven residents of two juvenile facilities have developed possible food poisoning, 71 of them in La Esperanza and 16 in Punta Blanca.
- Outbreak Alert (India): The first cholera case of the monsoon season has been reported in Chandigarh. The patient was admitted to hospital for treatment, but has been discharged.
- Outbreak Alert (Congo): An outbreak of cholera in regions fed by the Congo River has claimed 153 lives since March. In all, 2,787 cases have been reported.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0881): Salmonella Derby inmussels from Italy; distributed to Italy and Hong Kong.
Australia and New Zealand
- Synthetic Cannabis Mandated Recall (New Zealand): Ministry of Health warns retailers to remove the herbal smoking product Juicy Puff Super Strength from sale, because it contains the prescription medicine phenazepam, which is not approved for sale in New Zealand.
- Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0877): Fumosins in maize and buckwheat flour from Italy; distributed to Australia, Italy and the USA.
