Allergy Alert: Sulfites in Dried Yellow Potato

March 2, 2009

Goya Foods, Inc. has recalled 12-ounce packages of Dried Yellow Potato (Papa Seca Amarilla) due to the presence of undeclared sulfites in the product, according to a notice posted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.

The problem was detected as a result of routine sampling carried out by New York State.

Goya has agreed to recall all production codes of the Peruvian import. The dried potatoes were packaged in 12-ounce plastic bags and distributed across the United States.

Individuals who are sensitive to sulfites may experience severe allergy-like symptoms after consuming this product.

The bags of dried yellow potato were available in Price Chopper and in other retail stores nationwide. Consumers should return the product to the store for a refund.
