Hallmark Meat - Finally, The Truth

Yesterday, I noted that Steve Mendell's written testimony to Congress stated that the downer cows never entered the food supply. I ended my post with a question:
"So, if Mendell is being truthful with the House Sub-Committee, why did the company recall 143 million pounds of beef?"

Now, we know the answer - Mendell lied in his written testimony.

According to a New York Times report, Mendell's initial oral testimony supported his written submission. Then he was asked to watch a video that clearly showed a downer cow being shot with a bolt gun and dragged to the kill box. And he admitted that this cow, at least, had entered the food supply.

Mendell claimed that he has asked for, but had been denied a copy of this video. According to the Humane Society, however, the video had been available on the Society's web site since February 19th.

Thanks, Steve Mendell, for answering my question.
